The Taylors & The Forsters

Swords House.jpgThe Taylors originated from France where the family name was Tailleur. Nicholas Taylor was the first Taylor who settled in Ireland in 1273. Walter Taylor was the first Taylor in Swords in 1387. Alexander Taylor built Swords House in 1403. James Taylor was unmarried and passed the house to his sister Jane. He died on the 14 December 1873. Jane Elizabeth Taylor, sister of James, married Josiah Forster. She died on the 20 May 1869. Josiah Forster of St Croix in the West Indies had one son, James Fitzeustace Forster. James Fitzeustace Forster was a Colonel in the British Army and when his father died the house was given to him. He never married and he died in 1915. He is buried with an unmarked gravestone in St. Colmcille’s Church. As part of the research for this project, the boys talked to V. Rev. Fr Seán O’Neill, PP and he told them that he knows the exact spot in the graveyard where Colonel Forster is buried.
