The Ward RiverThe Ward River is thought to have been name by the Normans who entitled it Le Garde. It rises near Kilbride in Co. Meath, and flows through Tubberburr, Knocksedan, Brackenstown and Swords. The Broadmeadow rises near Dunshaughlin in Co. Meath and flows eastwards through Lispopple, Balheary and Broadmeadow Commons until it meets the Ward at Lissenhall, Swords. If we bear right along the river, we come to Chadwick’s Wall which runs along the side of the river. This house called Lissenhall was owned in former times by Hely-Hutchinsons. |
