Sluagh HallAs we continue on our trail, we meet the roundabout north of Swords, on the main Dublin –Belfast Road. Taking the small road off the roundabout, the first building encountered is the Sluagh Hall which was opened in 1938 by Eamon de Valera. Originally, the Sluagh Hall was a base for the Local Defence Force (LDF). It was later used by Forsa Cosanta Aitiúil (FCA), and it is still used by the Civil Defence. In the 1940s and 1950s, the Sluagh Hall was the scene of many a dance and ceilí. The Swords Drama Group put on plays there, and the revival of the Mumming tradition by Dr R. J. May also commenced at the Sluagh. |
